Frequently Asked Questions

DO YOU HAVE A PHYSICAL STORE LOCATION?

Firstly, thanks for loving our designs so much that you want to see them in person! Although we are primarily an online based boutique, we do take a small number of in-person appointments a week at our small Emerald, Central QLD based showroom every Thursday - Saturday.

For more information regarding opening times please select 'Visit Us' under the CONTACT tab on the menu. Currently we don't stock our dresses in any other bridal shops, the only place to purchase is through this website or our showroom. We understand purchasing online doesn't suit every bride, but this allows us to operate the way we do, and keep pricing affordable.

We have lots of faith in our seamstresses making the designs with as accurate sizing as possible for the best fit, and we aim to provide an easy and streamlined online purchasing process.

WHAT FABRICS DO YOU USE FOR YOUR DRESSES?

Here at Desert Moon Bridal you might not find rare imported vintage french lace but you will find dresses designed for comfort and light weight wear.

We aim to find fabrics that feel soft against your skin and are breathable. We use a lot of crochet lace and cotton/polyester blend lining.

DO YOU DO CUSTOM MEASUREMENTS?

YES! We can do custom measurements for most of our dress designs, often above our sizing chart sizing. Please note, custom measurements may increase our lead time slightly, if you are on a strict timeline please discuss your wedding date with us ahead of time, along with any custom sizing requests. Any custom measurements once submitted cannot be changed once production has started. Submitting custom measurements means that you agree that all measurements are correct and that the dress will be made accordingly. Desert Moon Bridal does not take responsibility for incorrect measurements submitted by customers. We recommend your get your measurements taken professionally and always leave room in your budget for any alterations if required. Read more about alterations HERE

ARE YOUR ITEMS ALL MADE IN AUSTRALIA?

Although where possible we try to support Australian businesses, we did make the decision to manufacture our dresses off-shore.
We work with an incredibly talented head seamstress and her team as well as a designer who are both Singapore & China based. They handcraft the patterns and spend endless hours creating beautiful details to make our dresses as perfect as possible. Here at Desert Moon Bridal we believe in ethical production, so each of our dresses are only made to order to avoid excess waste.

We also pay our seamstresses fairly and have a direct working relationship with the women who create our gowns, meaning the quality and workmanship is consistent across our orders.

Once each dress is completed our head seamstress ships the dress directly to our QLD based studio where we quality check every single design and check measurements and parameters match our advertised items. From there we add any additional detailing required by hand and then ship directly to you, the customer, from our Australian studio.

Please know the decision to create our gowns offshore has not been taken lightly. We tried very hard to find a local manufacturer, but to keep the dresses affordable under the budget we wanted to sell at, by the time we imported the fabric and made them locally it simply wasn't possible.

We hope you will still support our business, as it helps an Australian family as well as our International seamstresses.

WHY DO YOU REQUIRE MEASUREMENTS WHEN CHECKING OUT? I DON'T NEED CUSTOM SIZING

You might notice when purchasing your dress, that we require some measurements - including bust, waist, hip and height. Even if you just require standard Australian sizing from our sizing chart, we do recommend leaving these measurements for us to look over and make sure the correct size dress has been selected. This also helps us ensure the hem length of the dress is correct by leaving an overall height as well as an overall height with shoes on. This is taken from the top of your head to the floor. However, if you are happy with the standard sizing and don't want us to double check your measurements against the size chart, feel free to write 'Standard sizing' and only leave height measurements in the box.

IMPORTANT - if you are ordering a dress with sleeves, particularly fitted sleeves like Nyx and Spinifex, even if you do not require custom measurements, we do recommend leaving your arm circumference and arm length as well as the armscye measurement, to make sure we have enough room in the sleeves for you to be comfortable

HOW DO I TAKE MY MEASUREMENTS?

If you are doing full custom sizing then we will send through an email with the custom measurements required, as there are some more detailed measurements needed. We recommend your get your measurements taken professionally and always leave room in your budget for any alterations if required. Most seamstresses and alteration shops offer measurement taking as a service for a small fee, and you can take the list of required measurements we send through in with you to the seamstress and they will be able to take each one for you.

If you can't find a professional to take your measurements then it's best to get the help of a friend or family member to assist you in measurements. If you are unsure how to do any particular measurement, please reach out to us and we can assist.

Below is some clarification on specific terms used for measurements -

Height - Overall height from top of head to floor, taken both barefoot and in wedding shoes
Hollow to Hem - Taken from the hollow of the neck to floor, both barefoot and in wedding shoes
Armscyce - Taken around the arm and shoulder, under the armpit and around. This is used to ensure you have enough room in the armhole of the dress.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY DRESS?

Your gown has had a long journey to get to you, so a gentle steam will be necessary to ensure it looks the best before wearing. Particularly on some of our larger gowns like Florence & Dusk, each layer will need to be steamed starting at the very base layer and working your way up through the layers. If this feels like it's too complicated for you, most dry cleaners and some seamstresses offer steaming.
Please do not iron or press heat to your gown directly.

We also sell dress bags which can be purchased with your dress, to keep your dress safe and sound before and after your wedding day.

After your wedding day has been and gone, dry cleaning is the best option to remove any marks. All our gowns are safe for dry cleaning, but any 3D florals or beading should be treated gently. Some brides choose to hand wash gently also, which is safe for most fabrics.

ARE YOUR PHOTOS OF THE ACTUAL DRESSES?

Yes! Every photo and video of our dresses that you see on our website or socials if of the actual dresses we sell and stock. It's either taken by our team, or a photographer we have hired or sent in by a customer. You can order our dresses knowing the gown you receive will be the same as one in the photo.

CAN I ORDER MULTIPLE DRESSES AND JUST RETURN THE ONES I DON'T WANT FOR A REFUND?

Each of our dresses are made to order, so unfortunately we cannot offer a refund as our talented seamstresses only craft your dress when you place your order.
We have every faith you will adore your dress. If, before you order, you would like to see more photos of any of our dresses, feel free to check out our instagram or send us an email or message and we can share more images from our photo shoots and behind the scenes. All the photos we share are of our actual gowns and we trust you love them as much as we do!

CHANGE OF MIND
Unfortunately we do not accept returns or supply refunds due to change of mind. If we have not begun creating your dress you are more than welcome to make small changes your order or pick an alternate style but we cannot refund.
We also cannot refund you if you feel that dress does not suit you once your order arrives, as all our dresses are made to order.
Please choose carefully and we have every faith you will love your dress and feel beautiful in it.

Because our dresses are made to order, if for any reason of extenuating circumstances fabric cannot be sourced or an item cannot be completed within the timeframe promised only then will a full refund be granted.
