Toni & Kye Tie the Knot - REAL WEDDING - Odette

Toni looked simply breathtaking in our Odette design, read on to hear more about her and Kye's beautiful wedding on June 8th, 2022! Beautiful photos by Cavanagh Photography.

Toni and Kye celebrated their wedding day after a little more than 3 wonderful years together, in an intimate ceremony with just their nearest and dearest at the scenic Goosewing Cottage, in the gorgeous Hunter Valley NSW, Australia.

Tell us how Kye proposed - We love a good ring story!

It was a spur of the moment thing, it had been a beautiful day and I knew the sunset would be beautiful, so we took a drive to Lincoln’s Rock (in Wentworth Falls, NSW Australia) took some photos of the sunset and then Kye got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

When did you know Kye was the ONE?

It’s actually pretty gross, but I had been really sick vomited on the floor, and basically just hot boxed him in the room. That same day, he asked me to be his girlfriend!

When you first started wedding planning, what where 3 of the most important things to you both about your wedding day?

We wanted a small wedding, and we had to have our best friends there.

We wanted also wanted it to be stress free and low key.

We sort of eloped, we had a small wedding of only 15 guests. It was perfect.

What vendors did you use for your wedding?

Photographer: Cavanagh Photography

Videographer: Hunter Valley Video

How did you pick your venue?

Friends of ours had eloped and got us thinking we wanted to do the same but with our family and friends involved. After about a month of research, we found Goosewing Cottage.

What vendors did you spend the most time researching and trying to decide on?

None! They were all included in our package with Goosewing!

What is a unique way you personalised your special day?

We all wore sneakers! My husband and I both wore blue Vans, we also used bubbles instead of throwing confetti which made for some beautiful photos.

Do you have any advice for other couples planning a wedding on a lower budget?

Don’t be scared to cut out things that you may think you need. We didn’t have a reception that night and we just went out to dinner with our 15 guests, which was so much better.

When you look back on your day, what is your most favourite memory?

My favourite memory of course was when we were announced as husband and wife (that’s a given) but there was also my bridesmaid and maid of honour cutting their dress with nail scissors because it was too long, as well as making a makeshift bra out of face masks!

Party all night or did you sneak off with your loved one early in the night?

We were so tired, we literally went to bed straight after we got back from the restaurant!

What is something unique you did in your ceremony?

We wrote our own vows. I’m also lucky to still have both my parents, so they both walked me down the aisle.

I know we all hate hearing about it but did Covid affect your plans? If so how did you stay positive and keep planning against all odds? Any advice for other brides affected by lockdowns?

Covid didn’t affect our plans at all, thankfully but I know that’s not the case for all brides. If I can offer any advice, it would be that your day will still come and still be as perfect as you imagine it.

How did you pick your bridal party?

It was easy, We have a small friend circle and just had those 4 people in our bridal party.

How did you choose the colour and styling of your bridesmaid dresses?

I knew I wanted blue flowers, so I chose a dusty blue for the girls dresses. We opted for infinity gowns to be worn however they wished to wear them.

Did you get any inspo from Pintrest, insta and Tik Tok? Any DIYs that you completed and loved how they turned out?

Absolutely, what bride doesn’t? I made my own cake topper, and personalised the girls champagne flutes on the day. I also made my bridesmaids bouquets myself - I ordered the flowers online, and then ended up at a whole sale artificial flower store to add some filler flowers in.

How did you include Kye in the planning? Did he contribute to the nitty gritty stuff or leave the details up to you?

Ha! He kind of left most of it up to me, I just consulted with him once I had made a decision.

In three words describe your special day to us!

Perfect, perfect, perfect. I don’t think any other words could describe it.

If you had the chance to give one piece of advice to a fellow bride what would it be?

Take everything in, if you’re not traditional, don’t get caught up in all the wedding traditions, spend the morning with your partner if you can.

Did any vendors go above and beyond to make your day perfect? Give them a shout out here!

Goosewing Cottage, our venue made sure everything went smoothly. The best people you’ll ever meet.

Only if you feel comfortable sharing, please let our readers know what was your total budget for your special day and did you go over or under this amount?

Our budget was $15k and we were under this.

Looking back, how would you describe the atmosphere of your wedding day?

Calm, stress free, lots of laughs and love.

Did you include any special traditions into your day?

I did carry a horseshoe with me, and stuck to the ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’

How did you find DMB and what attracted you to our brand?

I found you guys on Tik Tok.

Everything! Pricing, style, size inclusivity. I’m a plus size bride and couldn’t find anything I liked because most gowns were not shown on plus size models.

Did you love your gown?

Did I love it? Is that a trick question! I adored my dress!!!! I felt like a Princess!

Did you have THE moment trying on your gown for the first time?

Once I seen my dress on, with my hair and makeup done, that’s when I had THE moment.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your Odette dress?

The pearl beading, it was everything I had dreamed of and more!

What is something unique you did for your reception?

We didn’t have a formal reception, instead we went out for dinner and drinks with our guests at a nearby restaurant.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your entire wedding day?

I just can’t get over how smoothly everything went and how stress free it was, it was such a beautiful day.

Finally - Honeymoon plans? Are you waiting to travel or did you jet off straight after the big day?

We went on a quick 1 week trip up to surfers paradise after our wedding, it was just so nice to get away!

A huge thank you to Toni & Kye for sharing this insight into their beautiful day and to Toni for selecting our Odette gown for your wedding gown -Toni you are an absolute vision in this design.
